You Are A Spirit
As a human, you are really a spirit who has a soul and lives in a physical body. So the real you is a spirit who is sometimes called the inner man. Before salvation, you or your spirit was alone in your spiritual heart in your body; sinful and very weak. But after this spirit was saved, the Spirit of God came into you and now lives in your spirit to minister the things of righteousness and to strengthen your spirit.
The Strength of Your Spirit Matters
The strength of your spirit matters a lot to both. God requires this strength to impart more blessings into your life, and you need it to attain a sustained spiritual growth and to experience the power and the abundant life of God. Scripture declares:
For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, 16 that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; …… that you may be filled with all the fullness of God (Eph. 3:14-19).
Here, Paul is praying for Christians asking the Father to strengthen their spirits (inner man) through His Holy Spirit who Himself dwells in their spirits. In other word, in response to our prayer requests, the Father gives the Holy Spirit the go-ahead to strengthen our human spirits with His mighty power so our spirits can become strong.
Furthermore, he prays that Christ may dwell in us, and that we be filled with the fullness of God. Knowing that the Lord Jesus is the Spirit, and that Paul is here praying for Christians who already have the Spirit or Christ in them, we can assume that Christ dwelling in us is a figure of speech for we being filled with a much higher measure of the Holy Spirit. When we are so filled to the extent that Christ dwells in us, then we in reality are filled with the fullness of God; for in Christ dwells the fullness of God (Col. 2:9). This is the process that causes the yoke-breaking power of God to manifest in maturing Christians.
The Stronger Your Spirit, the More of the Holy Spirit You Are Filled With
We can therefor say that when we pray for it, the Holy Spirit strengthens our human spirit. The stronger our spirits get, the greater the measure of the Holy Spirit that we can handle and are filled with. The greater the measure of the Holy Spirit we are filled with, the greater the power of God that manifests through us. If we actively continue to pray on this, then the process continues, and along the way, higher and higher measures of God’s power will manifest through us. God does not limit the measure of His Spirit that He fills us with; we limit ourselves by maintaining weak spirits, which cannot handle more of the Holy Spirit. Jesus, who was filled with the fullness of the Holy Spirit had a strong human spirit (Luke 2:80), and John the Baptist who was filled even while he was still in the womb (Luke 1:40).
Power For Daily Victories
You sure can do a whole lot with this power of God is in you. Yokes, oppression, sickness, disease, poverty, disfavor, to mention a few, all will be gone. Furthermore, you’ll become very resistant, and perhaps immune to evil spirit, sickness and disease.
Here are three forms of prayers you can use to pray effectively for a strong spirit:
1. Pray fervently for the strength of your spirit (Eph. 3:14-16).
2. Diligently wait on the Lord through silent prayers (Isa. 40:31, Psa. 27:14 and 62:5).
3. Pray in tongue; i.e. in your human spirit (1 Cor. 14:14).
